Samuel Elkins has more than 20 years of natural resource management experience spanning Alberta, British Columbia and New Brunswick, and has worked in various industry, consulting and government positions. He has extensive experience and training in many aspects of technical, operational and administrative practices related to the natural resources sector, including operations, management systems, sustainable forest management, chain of custody certification, health and safety, commercial transportation and greenhouse gas (GHG) advisory services. He is a Registered Professional Forest Technologist (RPFT-AB), an Environmental Professional in Training with a Greenhouse Gas Verification designation (EPt (GHG)) and a Provisional Environmental Auditor (PEA). Samuel is also an external auditor for the Alberta Forest Products Association Partners – Injury Reduction program.
Samuel is a graduate of the Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, New Brunswick (1994), and has been a member of the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (CAPFT) since relocating to Alberta in 2004. He currently owns and operates his own company, Strategic HSE Systems Inc., providing environmental and health and safety services to various industry sectors (including forestry, oil and gas, and transportation) and governments throughout Western Canada.
Samuel has experience conducting management system audits and implementing certification projects including: ISO 14001 and 9001, (CAN) CSA Z-809, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Chain of Custody and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Controlled Wood Chain of Custody certification schemes. In addition, he has conducted numerous regulatory compliance audits in British Columbia and Alberta, and develops safety and environmental management programs for various natural resource industry sectors.
